‘Depression – A Global Crisis’

World Mental Health Day was initiated by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992 to raise public awareness of mental health issues. This year is the 20th Anniversary focusing on “Depression: A Global Crisis”. The aim is to increase awareness of how Depression affects 350 million people globally and that it is a treatable illness and with the right help and support recovery is possible and achievable. Access to treatment is a problem in most countries and in some countries fewer than 10% of those who need it receive such treatment. Living with Depression can be exhausting, overwhelming and leave people feeling totally helpless and wanting to give up. Depression is very difficult to understand, unless you have experienced it for yourself, therefore it best not to judge, but to ask “How can I help?”
